Search for cute license plate frames and you get a wall of glitter plastic that fades in a summer and cracks at the first car wash. If the frame is the jewelry of the car, most of what's sold is costume jewelry. Here's how to pick one that still looks good in year three.
Material is the whole game
Plastic frames are printed, not made — the design sits on the surface, so UV fades it and stone chips flake it. Zinc alloy frames are cast metal: the pattern is part of the object, the weight keeps them rattle-free, and a weather-resistant finish shrugs off rain, road salt and car washes. That's why we build our license plate frames in solid zinc alloy — cute shouldn't mean disposable.
Fit and the fine print
- Sizing: our frames fit standard USA and Canada plates (12 × 6 in). They do not fit long European plates — EU friends, that's why the rest of the store ships worldwide but the frames stay continental.
- Legality: every US state requires the plate's numbers, state name and registration stickers to stay visible. A proper frame borders the plate without covering text — ours are cut to standard mounting holes with the display area clear. (Check your state's specifics; a few are strict about any top-edge coverage.)
- Front + back: most states and provinces run two plates, which is why frames should come as a set of two — ours do.
Cute, but make it considered
The trick to a frame that reads charming instead of cheap: pick a pattern that matches something — your car's color, your interior, your actual taste. Our eight designs mirror the seat cover prints, so the outside of the car can match the inside: Halo's sunrise rays, Luna's night-sky folk pattern, Indigo's coastal blue, Zara's terracotta Aztec and more. Installation
Two screws per plate with your existing hardware, five minutes for the pair. Between the frames outside and a matched interior inside, the whole car ends up feeling deliberate — which is all “cute” ever really meant.
